One of the most exciting and humanistic boxing movies ever - so yes, it's comparable to Rocky. The fact that it's based on a true story makes it even more exhilarating. Wahlberg makes the huge mistake of going head-to-head with the acting powerhouses of Bale, Adams and Leo, and as a result, the three overwhelm and crush him into virtual non-existence (what was he thinking?). I cannot imagine any contender this year for Bale's ultra-narcissistic supporting actor role. He's a solid bet for an Oscar.

First impression is the best impression…I saw its thriller in satellite and I sound : wow! ….popular topic of Boxing and sport competition with great performance of Christian Bale ,as usual…but I was wrong about plot. Actually the movie was not about boxing and sport itself. It was about relation, between people who are inspiration for each other , between two brother, mother and son, two lover …something more important which is happening out of the ring …. Good lesson for us NOT to forget good deed and meant of those people who were somebody for us someday , regardless they are failed version of somebody we hope to become or won’t believe in them anymore.
ReplyDeleteActually, even though Wahlberg didn't do much an acting job here, his role is the core of the movie. He's trying to juggle multiple factors in his life (family, girlfriend, profession), and not lose any of them. As a result, balancing these factors becomes a much more difficult task than fighting his opponents in the boxing match.

Interesting that it was based on a true story. So, we conclude the balancing that you mentioned is possible. That's it!
ReplyDeleteNo doubt the Wahlberg's performance was crushed among other three's but I even don't bring the name of them in one line. I think Bale was GOD of performance here. About "army of sisters" I just thought "Were they really funny and strange to this extent in real world?"
Believe me dear Farzaneh, in some rural areas here, that army of sisters is not considered funny or strange. Check out this year's "Winter's Bone" to get an idea.
