Every movie with a story based on complicated economics subjects has a rough time engaging the audience; so they rely on different ploys, mainly involvement of great actors. The Big Short, a movie studying the real-life characters who predicted the 2008 financial crisis, uses comedy, a quartet of great actors, inserts of celebrities (Margot Robie, Anthony Bourdain, Selena Gomez) explaining the concepts, and literal subtitles defining the terms. And it all works - baffling you where the world is going, and how these parasites are feasting on us.
