Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Director: Justin Lin. Cast: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin,  Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Shohreh Aghdashloo. 120 min. Rated PG-13. Action/Sci-fi.

Maybe because I knew J.J. Abrams didn't direct it. Maybe because I knew the Fast & Furious director (who inserted, yes, a motorcycle chase) directed it. Or maybe because the past two Star Trek films had significantly better direction. But the scrambled script, juggling numerous characters and merely providing the means for the next fast-edited, eye-squinting action sequence in close-up, made me feel lost. While a last-minute attempt to bring the franchise back to its sci-fi roots was admirable, till the very end, I never understood why the villain, an unrecognizable Idris Elba under layers of make-up, was so pissed.

  1. When you have a pre-teen around there is no way to postpone watching a blockbuster.!
Great movie . I was so impressed by such a idol team .Everyone has one another’s back. In a positive and peaceful atmosphere they are serving their function ideally .we see this oasis just in movies.

Kirk: We got no ship, no crew, how're going to get out of this one?
Spock: We will find hope in the impossible.

How sad knowing a cheerful & exciting young crew member won't be in enterprise anymore . Very sad . Rest in peace Chekov

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Did you know that out of respect to Anton Yelchin, future Star Treks won't have Chekhov anymore? Apparently they're going to kill him off in the beginning of the next episode.

  3. "Maybe because I knew J.J. Abrams didn't direct it." Really, this disappointed you? The rest of us were happy as hell! JJ Abrams blows. He's the director with no cloths. He just repackages old movies and people think he's great. What a joke. This movie was ten times better than Into Darkness better known as Kahn Part Deux. I'll grant you the motorcycle bit was silly, but it is Sci Fi. It's all pretty silly when you get right down to it. At least it was pleasantly entertaining and didn't offend the entire franchise, like a JJ Bite Me movie would. More Justin Lin! No JJ, ever! Maybe for the next one we can get Lin to put in a teenage girl delivering a heart wrenching soliloquy to the mirror about her teenage angst for you. Then I'm SURE you'd like it. Heatshock
