Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Director: Rian Johnson. Cast: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, Justin Theroux, Frank Oz. 152 min. Rated PG-13. Fantasy/Adventure.

It'd been so long since we'd seen a real Star Wars story. So long since we'd seen worlds we never knew we craved, since we were untouched by the wonders of the Force ...  we were losing hope. Then The Last Jedi came along, and the impossible became possible. From showing the origins of blue milk to some of the most breathtaking light-saber fights to undiscovered uses of the Force to surprise after surprise after surprise, Rian Johnson has delivered: he has satisfied fan expectations. Recall that even Lucas came up short in that department. And I didn't spoil a thing.

  1. I'd hear so many great reviews for this movie and that it was "the best!" Star Wars EVER! Yet I tried to supress expectations. Sadly somewhere in my subconscious I must have been expecting brilliance. I have to say I did enjoy it but there were to many pointless scenes left the whole feeling bloated and overlong. No doubt I will get this when it comes out on DVD and revaluate at that time.

    1. Yes, I guess that what happens when you get exposed to too much hype before seeing a movie, because I entirely stayed away from any internet mention it for an entire week! I even sent messages through other people to my sister-in-law (who'd seen the movie 24 hrs before I did) to stay away from me until I've seen it! And of course, I remember last year everyone was going crazy that "Rogue One" was one of the best episodes ever (only second to "Empire Strikes Back"), while I thought it was one of the worst. The criticism I agree with is that the movie was long - one critic said it was two movies jammed into one. But I still wasn't bored. Two days later, I can't avoid mesmerizing about the film - its greatest strength being trusting itself and us enough ... to take risks. I really appreciate that fresh approach. Try a second viewing; I think its value will be more appreciated.

  2. Yes I will give it a second viewing but will have to wait for the DVD release as I don't fancy 4 bus trips in this freezing cold!

  3. Well Mo, I am surprised and happy to find that you liked it so much, seeing as how you totally don't understand the greatness of Rogue One, which was indeed the best SW movie since Empire Strikes Back. Really, who cares about the stupid scroll?. Anyway, The Last Jedi has reinvigorated the franchise even more. I'll avoid the spoilers as well, but aside from a few small plot quibbles and being a little too long, it was a total home run!

    1. Glad you liked it, Heatshock. I generally don’t see greatness in small things - but l am proud you saw the greatness in this great movie. ;-)
