Director: Stuart Gordon. Cast: Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, David Gale. 86 min. Rated R. Sci-fi/Horror.
Typical 80's sci-fi gore-fest, taking the Frankenstein legend to whole new levels you don't even want to know about. Desperately trying to copy Sam Raimi's style of gory horror-comedies, the story throws so many twisted ideas, after awhile it's just not funny anymore. Easily imaginable for this to have had a cult following - but I'm not sure I'm interested in watching the sequels, Bride of Re-Animator (1990), Beyond Re-Animator (2003), House of Re-Animator (2010), etc etc etc ...
Mo says:
I am part of the CULT! I loved this fast paced hilarious gore-fest. I saw the first sequal which was awful and didn't bother with the rest.
ReplyDeleteKeep me updated if you run into any high-quality gore-fests ...
ReplyDeleteTry to avoid Shaun of the Dead if you can, generally loved, I hated it. What's the point of a Zom-Rom-Com that is neither horrific or funny. I suppose it did have some Rom in it but I was a Zombie after forcing myself to sit through it! It was based on an episode of the excellent britsitcom Spaced, should have stayed there.
ReplyDeleteSorry ... already saw it! The whole zombie genre is a metaphor of human behavior, so what's wrong with the parody of a metaphor? Or maybe I should've watched the sitcom you mentioned first, to make a educated judgment.
