The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)

Director: Tom Six. Cast: Dieter Laser, Ashley C. Williams, Ashlynn Yennie. 92 min. Rated R. Netherlands. Horror.

Warning: A German surgeon kidnaps three people to surgically attach the anus of one to the mouth of the next, to form a continuous GI tract from the three, and create the first human centipede. This one-liner should serve as a warning to prevent you from watching this sadistic piece of cinema. I'm not writing this to incite your morbid sense of curiosity. I'm seriously warning you to avoid this. Suit yourself.

PS: The title implies there's a second or third sequence to come. We got a problem here.

  1. This sounds right up my street. I will watch it with a can of bug-spray close at hand. I was going to say this film sounds tasty...but I wont
    ;)

  2. Death-Face,

I knew you would say that! :-))))

OK ... waiting to hear what you think.

  3. It was a disgusting film. Much worse than Nekromantik which I loved. This I did not enjoy at all. I must be getting soft in my old age. I will recommend it to some old friends though who have stronger stomachs than I. I agree with your rating :( I would advise most people to avoid it. But I HAD to see it.

It will be interesting to see if the next sequence is ever produced, if it is I doubt I will watch it.

  4. You're not getting soft. It WAS disgusting.

Sometimes movies that create a strong negative reaction in the viewer are good movies, because they touch a nerve. But that is definitely not the case here. I will tell people to avoid it, just because I don't want to lose credibility.

I already looked it up: the sequel is to be called "Full Sequence". I will definitely stay away.

  5. I really want to stay away from "Full Sequence"...but there is already a little voice inside me saying..."But you HAVE to see it!". And I usually do wht the little voices say... I will watch it, no point in denying that.

  6. I used have the same feeling about the "Saw" movies, but now I'm losing interest, not because of the gruesome stuff (which is always the funny part of these movies), but just because they've become boring.

  7. I had unreasonable expectations of the 1st SAW film after a friend raving about how brilliant it was. I hated it and never made the effort to see any more. Maybe one day, I will see a box set really cheap and pick it up but I doubt it.

  8. You like gory movies ... and you hated "Saw"?

    OMG! You're really hardcore!

    ;-)

  9. I dont just like the gore, they have to have something else. For me SAW had nothing else. I didn't find it interesting at all.

  10. I'm very eager to know which gory movies you find recommendable.

I hope this doesn't sound too naive, but "The Devil's Rejects" is one of my all-time favorites.

  11. I preferred House of a Thosand Corpses but the Devils Rejects was excellent ;)

  12. "The House of a Thousand Corpses" had a comedic side to it, but the ending of "Devil's Rejects" was incredible: we had become accustomed to a psychopath family, but suddenly at the end, with Lynard Skynard's "Free Bird" in the background, they die like heores. This sudden change in mood was ingenious. Reminded me of other incredible ending death scenes, like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", and "Thelma and Louise".

  13. The heroic death is always a fascinating scenario. Let's hope whoever eventually directs The Hobbit does not shirk from showing the deaths of some of the Dwarf characters, it was read to us by our teacher when I was 9 or 10 and it is still my favourite book. Much better than LOTR.

  14. Peter Jackson is back on board for "The Hobbit". I trust he'll deliver.

  15. I hope he does a better job than with LOTR!

I watched SAW2 today and was bored. The victims were all scum so I had zero sympathy for them. Is that to give us an excuse to enjoy their deaths?
How this "franchise" continues is beyond me lol although I would have loved it as a teen and that seems to be the target audience.

  16. The BBFC have been up to their old tricks with The Human Centipede 2 and banned it outright. That only makes me want to see it all the more and I guess I will not be alone in that. When will they work out that banning something makes it more desirable? Let adults watch it and make up their own minds.

  17. I was actually thinking about you when I read that news two days ago - and how you had promised to watch the sequel! But still, that rape scene they describe is beyond imagination. Even if it's allowed, I'm not going to watch it. Life is too short to be spent on watching such evil - even if it's fake.

  18. I will watch it, I have to, as much as a feeble protest against the BBFC as anything. I just hate being told I can't see something because it could damage me! The only people really affected by it are already damaged I expect and they will think the movie is funny.

  19. If that's the case, then more power to you. I've always found censorship seriously insulting to my intelligence.

  20. I finally got round to watching Human Centipede II last night and it didn't disappoint! It delved into further depths of depravity than the first in the trilogy. This one was set in England and features a character so far removed from the original protagonist as possible, an enthusiastic amateur as opposed to a twisted surgeon.

I can't say I enjoyed the experience but I didn't loathe the film either. I understand why the BBFC refused to give it a certificate although I don't feel they have the right to tell adults what they can and can't watch. I will be tracking down a copy of the final part which I understand ups the "sick" ante even further. I will leave that doubtful pleasure for some months though. Right now I am off to watch the mainstream horror of Motel Hell which I haven't seen for 30 years!

    1. Now you're making it a tough decision for me, Toast. Should I ignore a movie that I know will disgust me (because it'll give me ideas I never thought of before, like the first movie), ... or should I go ahead and watch it, to satisfy the curiosity you've instigated?

      Decisions, decisions.

And I had no clue a third episode will be out in 2014.

In the meantime ... have fun with Motel Hell!

  21. It's not a movie you really need to see, it is disgusting but so over the top there are moments of humour to be had.

Motel Hell was OK but nothing special, I imagine Rob Zombie would make a brilliant remake of it.
