Unstoppable (2010)

Director: Tony Scott. Cast: Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Dunn. 98 min. Rated PG-13. Action.

Not since Speed do I remember watching such a high-octane action-packed flick, during which you don't dare looking at your watch. There are a few train movies out there, but this is probably the most exciting - if not necessarily the most thought-provoking, like 1986's Runaway Train. Continuing the style of his recent movies, Tony Scott has a lot of fun with subtitles and visual cues to tell the story, and the incredible editing and cinematography make this one helluva thrill ride. Among all the Tony Scott-Denzel Washington collaborations, this is the best since Crimson Tide (no, not better).

  1. Exactly it reminded me “Speed” and in spite of repeated plot , these kinds of story never gets old or boring. But actually I didn’t find out about final scene? Spoiler :
Why young Kirk didn’t jump to the train 777from the first? Was it necessary all of last scenes when he could easily jump from a van to the train and all effort of that rescue operation like Washington ‘s effort for following and connecting and lowering speed of lethal train seems useless! You get what I mean?. If the only solution was jumping to the train (comes to our mind from the beginning) why all of this hesitating?

  2. Especially when we saw even Washington's attempt for lowering speed of train didn't work out.

  3. This is exactly why Tony's films have never matched those of his brother, Ridley. Tony Scott mainly focuses on the commercial aspects of his movies, and Ridley Scott on their dramatic depth.

During the movie's last scenes, I was also asking myself: if they can walk and jump over every wagon, why can't they do that to reach the locomotive?

You're asking a broader question: why didn't they do that from the very beginning of the movie! :-))))

As a mutual friend (Ali Abidi) said: typical Tony Scott movie. That's why with all it's excitement, I didn't give it a Mojo.

  4. Just saw the movie. I thought there was more railroad-related information than necessary, but it was fun overall.

BTW, did you see the SNL trailer?
