Director: Shane Black. Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ben Kingsley, Jon Favreau, Paul Bettany. 130 min. Rated PG-13. Action/Sci-Fi.
It's the third film of a trilogy, always under the black cloud of becoming the worst. But fortunately, Iron Man 3 breaks its way through, and tries to create its own identity by following Spider-man 2's lead of humanizing the superhero (the egotistical Tony Stark has anxiety attacks!), and even making political statements (the OBL-like Mandarin is just a facade). Still, this doesn't improve upon the Marvel superhero sub-genre, and merely stays at the level of a very entertaining action movie. The sky-diving rescue sequence blew me away, but I doubt this will be on my top 10 list for 2013.

What about the scene after credit ? I have to confess it has an incredible feeling ,no matter what is exactly about ,just a sweet waiting time !Agree that's was just an entertaining action movie.sometime it went to extremes(khalibandy tamam)&to tell the truth, 2 times I looked my watch...however (maybe spoiler alert!):the idea of army of hero was great. The future will be captured by high-tech so that no need for mankind to have one superhero ,just one intelligent creator to lead all clone- superheros ....I really loved the idea!also I liked John Favrea played his amazing role despite he didn't direct the third part and turned it down.I love these guys!
ReplyDeleteDear Maryam,
ReplyDeleteNow that I look back, I realize I really didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the first two "Iron Man"s. maybe I should've given it a Soso. I guess I got caught up in the hype.
ComicBookGirl19 describe very accurately what's wrong with the movie:

Mo, you said about the movie, “merely stays at the level of a very entertaining action movie”. Well duh? That’s the reason we go to see Iron Man! You want touching commentary on the challenges of modern life, go to your local college art theatre and watch some subtitled French crap with the 4 other sensitive girls who want to get in touch with their inner angst. As an action movie Iron Man 3 was excellent. First, the biggest hurdle for all action movies is the villain. How the hell did they get Ben Kingsley in that role? Brilliant! The “Some people call me a terrorist, I consider myself a teacher” rant was epic. Then they throw in the twist that it’s all bullshit. Well done. I agree it wasn’t perfect, they could have left most of the scenes with the kid on the cutting room floor (although it was funny when Stark told him not to be a pussy). All in all it was a very entertaining movie, which is the point! BTW, bonus for turning Pepper into a superhero for the next movie.

Heatshock,
ReplyDeleteIf you've watched the 1978 "Superman", "Spider-man 2", or the second "Dark Knight" movie, you'll see there are superhero movies that go beyond ... just a superhero movie. They try to humanize the character, give it depth, make it accessible to the common viewer. "Iron Man 3" never makes that attempt. It never aims high. I'm not saying it aims low. I'm just saying it never aims high.
PS #1: Thank God I know you in person. It's amazing how the "on-paper" personality and physical personality of people differ. They should make a movie about this concept. It would definitely be intriguing.
PS #2: Subtitled French crap? Have you seen their superhero movies? "The Professional/Leon" is a great example. Masterpiece.
PS #3: I don't like Gwyneth Paltrow. I'll hate the producers if they let her don the suit again.
