Director: Tom Ford. Cast: Colin Firth, Julianne Moore. 99 min. Rated R. Drama.
Oscar nominee or no Oscar nominee, this was way too slow. Directed by a fashion designer, A Single Man is visually stimulating, but boring and definitely not worth the time. For a better rendering of the same concept (grasping the beauty of life rather than committing suicide), watch the 1997 Palm d'Or winner, Taste of Cherry.
Mo says:
I got tired and fast-forwarded it to see whether he does it!LOL!
ReplyDeleteWell ... did he?

Ah, who cares! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIn spite of having such a kind of plot which I had no idea already and is not my favorite at all! I got surprised that I could stand watching till the end, and more stranger that it provoked me to think about the issue which didn’t happen in previous works like “Brokeback mountain and so on ! , besides, I believe it does have a numbers of nice quotes ,good performances and as a first work of director was not really bad.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree: depsite its shortcomings, it was a decent debut effort by the director.
ReplyDeletespoiler alert!
ReplyDeleteI got tired of it and acualy I couln't get the point, it was a boring life diary the same as many of ours routin and tedious!
but putting aside the monotonous rythm of the it it had some point for concentrating
I don't know. For some reason Hollywood has suddenly become incredibly interested in Colin Firth. This year they'll probably nominate him for "The King's Speech". Even though it still hasn't had a wide release, the movie is already carrying a lot of Oscar buzz for Firth.
