Director: Alison Klayman. 91 min. Rated R. Documentary.
Life of artist turned political activist Ai Weiwei, who designed the
2008 Beijing Olympic stadium and was later imprisoned, accused of
conspiring to "subvert" the Chinese government. Sorry, but seeing how the artist roams the streets and tweets on Twitter, with supporters allowed
to film a typical police station visit (as opposed to places like Iran,
where political prisoners claim to have been raped in prison or heads
stuck in toilets full of feces), made me feel Weiwei has it pretty good. But you
have to credit the man for his sheer ingenuity, as his resistance maneuvers
are quite creative.
