The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)

Director: Grant Heslov. Cast: George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey, Robert Patrick. 94 min. Rated . Comedy.

This is one of those movies where at the ending scene you say: "Oh, so that's what their goal was." And as I'm writing this, I've forgotten what that goal was. A friend once said George Clooney's policy is one for me, one for you: alternating one smart intelligent piece of art that has a specific thoght-provoking agenda in mind, with one brainless idiotic joke that only targets the box office (and fortunately fails at that). Guess which category this movie is. But I'm surprised Bridges, McGregor and Spacey were all in on it too.

  1. I loved the book by Jon Ronson and and the documentary(Ronson is a bit like Lois Theroux, totally deadpan and funny) but have no urge to see the film. Thanks for the :(

  2. But don’t be unfair ,even my little son jumped of his seat during playing when he just heard the name of Jedi through TV! …seems EWan Mac-Gregor had missed Obi-Won Kenobi already by acting in such a role!

  3. Actually, Ebert makes a cute reference to this point in his review:

"The two of them unwisely journey into wartime Iraq, where they run into hostility. Cassady attempts to deal it with using paranormal techniques. He explains his theory of Jedi Warriordom to Wilton, who has apparently never seen "Star Wars" episodes I, II and III. Little joke."
